Peace Country Bison Association
"Canada’s Oldest Bison Association"

Origins
Bison producers in the Peace District of Northern Alberta and British Columbia
quickly realized the value of sharing information and working together to solve
marketing, transportation and bison production challenges. Six industry leaders
from this geographic locale, unaware that the Canadian Bison Association (CBA)
was in the early stages of formation, joined together to found Canada’s oldest
industry association in December 1985.
Leaders in Industry Development
The PCBA has agreements with Northern Alberta Development (funding agency),
Boreal R&D (research management), the University of Alberta and the Lacombe
Research Centre for projects addressing meat quality and grazing. PCBA members
led the way in the development of the Bison Research and Development Working
Group and the Bison 2000 – A Strategic Plan for Research and Development Needs
of the Canadian Bison Industry.
