A Special Meeting was called this week by the Directors of the Bison Producers of Alberta to address the tragic passing of our Chair, Thomas Ackermann. Although everyone was dealing with the loss of a dynamic leader and friend, there was a need to re-group in order to continue the efforts and direction Thomas had so diligently worked on for the bison industry.
Therefore the following nominations were accepted, moved and carried:
- Ivan Smith will be the Interim Chair until the BPA Annual General Meeting, March 2015.
- Roger Van Haren will be the Interim Vice-Chair until the BPA Annual General Meeting, March 2015.
- Ivan Smith will fill the vacancy of the third BPA Representative on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Bison Association, joining Glenn Kjehmhus and Roger Van Haren.
The BPA will make a contribution to the “Ackermann Princess Trust Fund” [at The Alberta Treasury Branch, Transit # 856, Account # 00363486800 ] in an expression of our sympathy. We encourage all other producers and stakeholders to donate to this Trust, in appreciation of all that Thomas contributed to our industry.
The Board of Directors assure the BPA members we will continue to work diligently on projects spearheaded by Thomas, ensuring the bison industry remains the cornerstone of the diversified livestock industry in Alberta.
A Memorial Service for Thomas Ackermann will be held:
