2015 Wildrose Bison Convention Summary

The Wildrose for 2015 has been deemed by all counts ‘simply a great event’!  This in spite of, or perhaps because of, some significant changes to the format.  Learning VJV Auction in Ponoka was holding their Commercial Bison Sale on Friday, March 13th  – the day we were opening our Wildrose Convention in Ponoka – the BPA decided to have their Friday Bison Banquet and Fun Auction after the VJV Sale on the 13th, and hold the Speaker Presentations the next day, Saturday. 

Many producers took in the VJV Bison Sale, and then joined the others Wildrose attendees at the Royal Canadian Legion for the opportunity to visit before the Banquet.  And what a Banquet!  EAT Catering from Red Deer set out a delectable meal for 135 people featuring Bison Short ribs (from Canadian Rangeland and Big Bend Bison) in Masala Mushroom Au Jus.  Rave reviews of ‘a most wonderful meal’ were heard all evening.  Some of those reviews were interrupted by VJV Auctioneer, Darrell Johnston, as he displayed his talents in selling the Live Auction items in the Fun Auction, and advising the winning names on the Silent Auction items.  Generous donors and generous bidders combined for a most successful and ‘fun’ ending to the day.
